Shopify Payment Gateway in India: Fees Compared
Shopify Payments is not available in India, so every Indian store pays a gateway fee plus Shopify’s own fee. Here is what Razorpay and Cashfree cost on each plan.

An Indian Shopify store pays twice on most online payments: once to its payment gateway and once to Shopify. Shopify Payments, which removes Shopify’s fee in other countries, is not available in India.
Why Indian stores pay two fees
India does not appear on Shopify’s list of Shopify Payments countries, and Shopify says stores outside that list need a third-party provider. Third-party transaction fees then apply to every sale through that provider. The rate depends on your plan: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus.
What Razorpay and Cashfree publish
These are the standard rates on each company’s pricing page on 3 November 2026.
| Fee | Razorpay | Cashfree |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic platform fee | 2% | 1.95% |
| Corporate credit cards | 2.15% | Not listed separately |
| International cards | Up to 3% | 2.99% (Visa, Mastercard), 2.95% (Amex) |
| Setup fee | ₹0 | ₹0 |
| GST on the fee | 18% | 18% |
Razorpay applies its 2% platform fee to UPI as well as cards. Cashfree is advertising 0% on a merchant’s first ₹20 lakh of sales until 31 March 2027, so read the offer terms before you count on it. These rates change, so confirm yours in writing.
The total on a ₹1,000 order
This adds Shopify’s fee to the gateway fee and the 18% GST on that gateway fee. It leaves out any tax on Shopify’s own fee.
| Shopify plan | With Razorpay | With Cashfree |
|---|---|---|
| Basic (2%) | ₹43.60 | ₹43.01 |
| Grow (1%) | ₹33.60 | ₹33.01 |
| Advanced (0.6%) | ₹29.60 | ₹29.01 |
The gap between gateways is under ₹1 on this order. The gap between Basic and Grow is ₹10, so your Shopify plan usually matters more than your choice of gateway. Our Shopify pricing guide shows the sales level where a higher plan pays for itself.
How to choose a gateway
Published rates are close, so test what differs for your store:
- Whether it appears under Settings > Payments for your store, and which payment methods it enables there
- Payment success rates on your own traffic, which you can compare by running a real trial
- How quickly money settles into your bank account
- International card rates, if you sell abroad
- How refunds and disputes are handled, and who answers when something breaks
Before you switch
Pull your last three months of orders and split them by payment method. Multiply each share by the rate you have been quoted, then add the Shopify fee for your plan. That gives you your real cost per order.
Cash on delivery avoids both fees but brings its own costs. Our cash on delivery guide covers those. If checkout drop-off is the bigger problem, see our Shopify CRO service.
