WooCommerce to Shopify Migration in India

How to move a live WooCommerce store to Shopify without closing it: what moves, what needs rebuilding, how to keep your rankings, and what it costs.

You can move a live WooCommerce store to Shopify while it keeps taking orders. We did this for Kristore, a fashion and accessories brand with more than 700 SKUs, and the store never went offline. This guide covers how the work breaks down, using that project where it helps.

What moves, and what has to be rebuilt

Your data can move. On Kristore we moved products, metadata, orders and customer data with custom API automation, so we didn’t need a paid migration app, and existing orders stayed intact. Import apps can do the job on simpler stores, so choose by how messy your data is.

Some things don’t carry across and need a plan of their own:

  • Your theme. A WooCommerce theme won’t run on Shopify, so the storefront is rebuilt or replaced.
  • Your plugins. Each one needs a Shopify app, custom code or a decision to drop it. Make this list first, because it often drives the cost.
  • Customer passwords. Shopify can’t import them, so customers set a new password the first time they log in.
  • Your payment setup. Gateways are connected again on Shopify, and third-party payment fees now apply to each sale.

How to keep your Google rankings

Shopify uses a fixed URL structure, so most of your store’s addresses will change. Each old URL needs a 301 redirect (a permanent forward) to its new page, or the rankings and links it has earned are lost. Default WooCommerce URLs map like this:

PageWooCommerceShopify
Product/product/blue-tote//products/blue-tote
Category/product-category/bags//collections/bags
Blog post/your-post//blogs/news/your-post

Export every URL from your old site before you touch anything, and carry your page titles and descriptions across with the products. On Kristore, SEO metadata and product-link redirects were part of the migration itself. Leaving them until after launch means your old links fail while you catch up.

The order we would run it in

  1. List every plugin, integration and custom feature, and decide what happens to each.
  2. Export all current URLs, along with your product, customer and order data.
  3. Build the Shopify store while WooCommerce keeps selling.
  4. Import the data, then check samples by hand: variants, prices, images and past orders.
  5. Prepare the redirects and test them against your URL export.
  6. Place real test orders with every payment method, on phone and desktop.
  7. Sync the orders and customers that came in during the build.
  8. Point your domain at Shopify during a quiet period, then watch orders and 404 errors closely for the first few days.

WooCommerce keeps running until the domain changes, which is why customers don’t see an outage.

What happened after Kristore moved

October 2025 was the migration month, and we supported the store for a year afterwards. These are its figures from its Shopify reports for 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026:

MeasureResult
Monthly sales₹2.20L in October 2025 to ₹6.27L in September 2026
Average order value₹955 to ₹1,293, up 35%
Net sales over 12 months₹52.2L
Orders over 12 months5,577

A new platform doesn’t explain all of that on its own. The project also included a custom theme, a redesign, navigation and product page work, cross-sells and a year of support, and we don’t attribute the growth to any single change. The full Kristore case study has the method and the limits of the data.

What a migration costs

Our typical range for a store build or migration is ₹3.5 to ₹8 lakh before 18% GST, and your price is the fixed quote we send in writing. Plugin count, catalogue size and how much custom logic you have built up matter most. Plan and fee costs after the move are covered in our Shopify cost breakdown.

When we would wait

If your store depends on custom plugin logic that no app covers, and you have no budget to rebuild it, moving now can leave you worse off. Price that work first, then decide.

If your store is on WooCommerce and getting harder to run, our Shopify development team can scope the move.
